Tour of the Capilano Watershed

August 21, 2003

About 40 per cent of Vancouver's water supply comes from the Capilano Watershed (the 3½ mile lake behind the Cleveland Dam – North Vancouver). To safeguard the drinking water, this pristine area is off limits to the general public. However, during the summer months only, public bus tours are available.

Date:  Thursday, 21 August 2003
Cost:  FREE. This tour is offered as a public service by the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD).
Schedule:
  • Prior to 12:15 pm – Assemble in the upper parking lot at the Grouse Mountain Skyride.
  • 12:15 pm – Board the bus.
  • 12:30 pm – Bus departs and tour begins.
  • 4:30 pm (time approximate) – Bus returns to point of departure and tour ends.
Driving directions:  Travel north on Capilano Road in North Vancouver. The name changes to Nancy Greene Way. Continue along Nancy Green Way which ends at the Grouse Mountain Skyride.
Limited seating:  We can accept only 25 reservations for this event. So reserve your seat(s) ASAP.
Special Note!:  You should eat lunch before you board the bus, or carry a bag lunch to eat onboard. It is advised that you also bring along a bottle of drinking water or some other liquid refreshment.

The booking office tells us that many elderly seniors have taken, and enjoyed, this tour. We will be traveling on logging roads through an undeveloped wilderness area. The ride will be bumpy. There will be about six 20-minute stops at points of especial interest. What walking is involved is easy, short, distances on level ground. There are primitive toilets (pit or portable) at each of the stops. The bus is a yellow school bus and has NO onboard toilet.

Reservations: Please e-mail Bev Carlson at ♦♦♦♦@♦♦♦.♦♦♦ or phone her at ■■■-■■■■ by Tuesday, August 5.

See you there!
