This implementation plan outlines the actions that SFU IT will take to advance the 2024-27 IT Plan. Aligned with the three strategic themes, it outlines five focus areas and corresponding projects and initiatives to enhance the university's IT infrastructure and services. As a living document that will be updated regularly, the implementation plan will support teaching, learning, and work across SFU.
The five focus areas include:
STRATEGIC PLANNING
- Develop ERP Strategy, Business Case and Roadmap to prepare for the transformation of the core ERP systems [Sustainable Operations, Usable Technology]
- Develop the Learning Spaces Strategy to guide future investments decisions on physical, virtual, hybrid learning spaces [Sustainable Operations, Usable Technology]
ADVANCE IT OPERATIONS
- Enhance IT Service Management by implementing new incident and change management process and enhance knowledge management practices [Sustainable Operations]
- Implement time tracking in Application Services to better understand and optimize resource utilization [Sustainable Operations]
- Enhance Agile practice across IT Services [Sustainable Operations]
- Enhance and better leverage project management processes throughout IT [Sustainable Operations]
- Shift to platforms (i.e., M365) to decrease the number of supported technologies [Usable Technology]
- Operationalize the administration and management of Enterprise Licensing [Sustainable Operations]
DEVELOP OUR PEOPLE
- Support a culture of learning (growing technical knowledge in key trends) so that we can be strategic advisors and operators of technologies such as educational technology, data-driven decisions and business intelligence, artificial intelligence, AR/VR/MR [Usable Technology]
- Provide growth opportunities for staff [Sustainable Operations]
- Provide development opportunities for staff in ITSM, AGILE, Cloud, and automation areas [Sustainable Operations]

ENHANCE DATA SHARING & USE
- Ensure SFU data is easy to use and understand by supporting the continued development of the SFU Data Dictionary [Available Data]
- Create and implement data management standards (quality, storage, retention, integration) by implementing a data management tool that best fits within the Data Integration Strategy [Available Data]
- Operationalize the data access request and approval process [Available Data]
- Develop a data integration strategy that is aligned with the university's strategic needs [Available Data]
Improve Customer Experience
- Upgrade Wi-Fi and cellular coverage for Burnaby Campus by replacing 1400+ end-of-life network cables and implementing 100 additional wireless access points [Usable Technology]
- Modernize telephony to support hybrid work by implementing MS Teams Phone to replace desktop phones [Usable Technology]
- Reimagine “HELP” and create consistent standards for client interaction by clearly defining and standardizing services to improve the reliability and consistency of our services and measuring success using KPIs [Usable Technology]
- Create searchable people directory and associated structure [Usable Technology]
- Streamline the meeting room experience [Usable Technology]
- Standardize devices to provide a consistent user experience [Usable Technology]
- Continue to develop eTRACS Enterprise Faculty Management System to facilitate transition of Beedie, FHS & FASS to eTRACS [Sustainable Operations, Usable Technology]
- Migrate Academic Personnel System processes into MyINFO [Usable Technology]
