"I have enjoyed being able to get training and access to the wide range of instrumentation here at SFU. I am also enjoying working with many inspiring people."
Annabelle Kilham
Chemistry doctoral student in the Faculty of Science
I am a first year PhD student in the chemistry department. I completed my bachelor’s degree in chemistry as well as a minor in music at Mount Allison University out in New Brunswick and I am excited to see what the next couple of years will bring.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
I chose to come to SFU because I was really drawn to the work done by Dr. Byron Gates. Having grown up in Vancouver, I was also excited to be closer to family and friends in the area.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
My research focuses on optimizing nanoparticle catalysts for their use in fuel cells.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I have enjoyed being able to get training and access to the wide range of instrumentation here at SFU. I am also enjoying working with many inspiring people. I started my program very recently, so I am looking forward to taking classes and becoming more involved in the SFU community.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I received the NSERC-CGS Masters and Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship. I am very grateful to have received these awards as they allow me to focus more on the research aspect of my degree.
