"I chose SFU because of the great work many faculty members are doing regarding social justice for gender and sexual minorities."
Martha Gumprich
master's student in the Faculty of Health Sciences
I am an MSc student in the Faculty of Health Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Travis Salway. Before coming to SFU, I completed my BA Specialized Honours in Kinesiology and Health Science as well as a certificate in Athletic Therapy from York University.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
I chose SFU because of the great work many faculty members are doing regarding social justice for gender and sexual minorities.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
I am currently looking at the experiences and mental health of non-binary youth (ages 15-29) in organized team sports in Canada and the US.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I love working with my research team and having such a supportive and caring environment to conduct my research. All of my classmates are doing such diverse work so we all help each other grow and see our work from new perspectives.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
