"I chose to come to SFU because of its global focus and inclusivity in education and because of the opportunities that students are given while they are studying and once they graduate."
Rina Cakrani
International Studies master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I am an international student from Albania who's pursuing her MA in International Studies. I have a broad international experience, having lived and worked in three different countries. I am interested in various areas, in particular foreign affairs, human rights and immigration.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
I chose to come to SFU because of its global focus and inclusivity in education and because of the opportunities that students are given while they are studying and once they graduate. I thought it would fit my international background and my interests and help me develop more academically and at a personal level as well.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
I am exploring my own interests in the research that I am doing. I am looking into international state building efforts in Kosovo.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I am enjoying learning from my professors who made me work hard and made me develop more my critical thinking and other skills as well. I also enjoyed being in a classroom with students from all over the world who are very knowledgeable and eager to learn more. I like how closely together students work with professors and how we all have the chance to explore our own interests further.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I have been a recipient of the Simmons Entrance Award when I began my studies in Fall 2021. I also received department awards in fall 2021, spring 2022 and summer 2022.
