Public Policy master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I am an MPP student in the School of Public Policy at SFU. In April 2021, I graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with Distinction in Political Science and a Certificate in Law. I am particularly interested in child and family policy, social policy and inequality, and international development.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I chose to come to SFU primarily because of the structure of the Master of Public Policy Program. The MPP program at SFU has experiential learning opportunities which includes a mandatory co-operative education program that allows students to hone in on their current learning, research, and skills. The small cohort size has been incredibly beneficial for my learning and has allowed me to foster meaningful relationships with my professors and fellow classmates. Vancouver is also a beautiful city that I continue to enjoy exploring!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

The MPP program is interdisciplinary in nature. Students take courses in policy analysis, political science, economics, and qualitative and quantitative research methods which contributes to a well-rounded education. The program ultimately trains students to successfully enter the world of policy and work as policy analysts.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

I particularly enjoy the opportunity to learn practical skills and apply these skills to pressing policy issues. I am confident that the skills I have learned throughout my studies will serve me well when entering the workforce.
