David Edward Kenny

My name is David Edward Kenny. I am a teacher at Semiahmoo Secondary School in Surrey, BC where I teach IB English A: Literature, Theory of Knowledge and coordinate the school’s IB Self-Taught Language program. I am a passionate, curious educator intrigued by the possibilities of what teaching can be and offer.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

In my time in the MATE program, I have sought to explore new and diverse literatures and acquire new ideas to share with my students and colleagues and incorporate into my own teaching practice.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

In my time at SFU I have been most interested in the power of narratives to shape knowledge and its reception, this is true broadly but is doubly important in the study of narratives in literature. Through deep exploration of the narratives we all participate in and disseminate through literature I believe we can equip ourselves and those around us with tools to improve both ourselves and our world.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

The chance to engage in these explorations and discussions I mentioned above drew me to the MATE program and my rich engagement with them and with my instructors and colleagues has kept me here.
