Tell us a little about yourself, including what inspires you to learn and continue in your chosen field
I have six years of work experience in various positions within the industry. During this time, I gained valuable practical knowledge in system design and protection. However, I identified a significant gap in leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of power electronics-based systems. This realization motivated me to pursue further education and research to address this gap and contribute to the advancement of the field.
Why did you choose to come to SFU?
I chose SFU because of its reputation for academic excellence, cutting-edge research opportunities, and a vibrant, inclusive campus community that inspires innovation and growth.
How would you describe your research or your program to a family member?
I'm working on using artificial intelligence to make power electronics and smart grids more efficient and reliable. Essentially, I’m helping develop smarter technology to manage electricity, improve energy systems, and enable better maintenance using edge intelligence.
What three (3) keywords would you use to describe your research?
Power Electronics, Smart Grids and Artificial Intelligence
How have your courses, RA-ships, TA-ships, or non-academic school experiences contributed to your academic and/or professional development?
My courses have provided a strong theoretical foundation in advanced technologies like AI and smart grids. RA-ships have honed my research skills, allowing me to apply knowledge to real-world problems and contribute to innovative solutions. TA-ships have strengthened my communication and teaching abilities, while non-academic experiences, like networking and collaborating with peers, have enhanced my teamwork and problem-solving skills, all of which contribute significantly to my academic and professional growth.
