This year the 3MT competition will be held virtually. As in previous years, each faculty will run their own heat and winners from each heat will compete in the SFU 3MT Finals on April 15, 2021. Check out the schedule as information gets updated from each Faculty.
Don't worry if your faculty isn't running a heat or you're unable to compete in your faculty's heat, you can choose to compete in the SFU Wildcard heat instead.
Here's some tips get a head start on this year's competition:
Participate in workshops to help you frame your research in intersting and novel ways. We've included information on some ongoing workshops as well as Spring 2021 workshops that might help you.
Watch some videos of past finalists and winners. Last year's winner, PhD student Elana Varner, took home 1st place and People's Choice from the Western Regional Competition. We've got videos of past finalists, winners and 3MT presentations from around the world that you can learn from to up your game.
Visit the SFU Library's resources for improving your presentation skills, public speaking, creating Powerpoints and even design! You can access these tutorials and resources on your own time.
There's also a host of other resources, including TED talks, Lifehakers, and even a Forbes article on how Bill Gates stepped up his communication and speaking skills!
