SFU's Em Lim Wins First Place at 2021 3MT Western Regionals

Biology master's student, Em Lim took first place in the 2021 3MT Western Regional Competition hosted by Athabasca Univeristy on May 13, 2021.

Em's undertaking research on sea cucumber pee and how the nutrients from that urine help to create healthy marine ecosystems. Their presentations have received praise and recognition throughout this year's 3MT Competitions, starting with faculty heats.

Em will be competing in the next round of 3MT competitions at the national level, virtually in November.

2021 SFU 3MT Final Winners

First Place
  • Em is a doctoral student in biology and is focused on the role of marine animal in recycling nutrients. [NSERC CGS-D (2023), NSERC CGS-M (2020), and BC Graduate Scholarship (2020)]

Second Place
  • Erin is a master's student who is researching fainting. (CIHR CGS Masters Scholarship)

Third Place & People's Choice
  • Nic is a Biomedical Engineering Science master’s student working on a very sensitive magnetic field sensor that used to detect the tiny fields your brain produces.
