Spatial Analysis

The details of the steps taken to complete the analysis can be seen in the Cartographic Model.

The areas in this map do not fall in the Agricultural Land Reserve, areas of undevelopable land, or in stream setbacks.  Only the areas in black may be developed so they are the only ones that may be considered for the study.  This map was created by overlaying maps of areas not found in the ALR, waterways, or undevelopable land.

The areas in green lie in proximity to major and minor routes, schools, and developed areas.  With the green areas being the most suited to development, Walnut Grove, Willoughby, Fort Langley, Brookswood/Fernridge and Aldergrove are highly visible.

My analysis resulted in a high suitability for urbanization in the Willoughby and Brookswood/Fernridge areas.  Other areas along the Aldergrove/Abbotsford border also showed up as possible development sites.

A comparison of this spatial analysis to Langley Township's Official Community Plan follows in Methodological & Operational Problems.

This map shows the results of ranking the grid cells according to suitability for urbanization.  It can be seen that the two largest areas in the MCE map above show up as the highest ranked areas (the largest green areas) for development.
