SPATIAL ANALYSIS

A Weighted Linear MCE analysis using all four constraints and eleven factors will provide us with an output showing the most and least suitable locations for a new retirement home in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. This analysis was done using the Decision Wizard in IDRISI, a module that takes the user through each step in the analysis.

THE PAIRWISE COMPARISON

Constraints:

- GVRD Landuse (2001)

- Above Average Population of Ages 50_64

- Above Average Population of Ages 65+

- Municipalities within GVRD

Factors:

- Proximity to Bus Route

- Proximity to Skytrain Stations

- Proximity to Railroad

- Proximity to Parks

- Proximity to Greenspace and Greenspace2

- Proximity to other Retirement Homes

-Proximity to Hospitals

- Proximity to Libraries

- Proximity to Golf Courses

- Proximity to Highways

The pairwise comparison module shows how each factor is weighted against each other. It asks which factors are more important, and which are less important. The most important weights were Hospitals and Current Retirement homes.

The result from this is a raster IDRISI map showing all locations ranging from suitable to unsuitable for a new retirement home in the GVRD
