Introduction

Aiding in the relocation of crime fighting superheroes, as a private contractor it is required that the main focus is to locate the optimal areas for the superhero’s home. Taken into strong consideration is that this home has to fulfill the needs of the superhero as well as his or her alter ego. For this particular job, the goal is to assist Bruce Wayne also known as Batman, in the placement of his new residence in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Vancouver’s population has been growing immensely in recent years. With the awarding of the 2010 Winter Olympics to this city, the population growth and tourist visits will only increase. Not only will this draw economic growth to the city but crime as well, and with this amount of people in this one place the local authorities are in dire need for extra assistance. The Greater Vancouver Regional District inquired for Gotham city’s leading crime fighter, and because of Gotham’s city decreasing crime rates Batman has decided to offer his services to the GVRD.

Background Research

To optimize his crime fighting efficiency, this project by means of spatial analysis is to locate the possible areas where the billionaire Bruce Wayne can keep his wealthy bachelor image but at the same time facilitate his needs for his nightly crusades. In the GVRD, the area with high crime rates that is in need of most attention is the Downtown Eastside. Violence and drug problems plague the streets and threaten to spread into the downtown core. The Downtown Eastside is based on Hastings Street a major road that connects the Downtown commercial core to rest of the city to the east. So in order to ensure safe travel for residences and tourists into and out from the commercial centre of downtown the Downtown Eastside must be cleaned up.

With the above in consideration, the optimal area for Batman to settle would be a high income neighborhood where Batman as Bruce Wayne can uphold his affluent image, but also in an area of low population density to reduce the probability of a nearby residence witnessing abnormal activity at the Wayne Manor. Furthermore, another important factor is the access to major waterways which can help in faster travels by water when necessary. One of the more important factors is the convenience of the Wayne Manor location to Downtown Eastside and surrounding areas where he can efficiently come to the aid of Vancouver’s night.
