Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at SFU: June in Review
At SFU, we are committed to advancing a culture of inclusive excellence where all feel welcome, safe, accepted and appreciated. Here is a snapshot of EDI at SFU in June.
Equity Compass annual report now available
Guided by the Equity Compass, teams and individuals across the university have made significant progress towards building a more equitable, diverse and inclusive SFU. Together, we have improved existing structures and begun to close identified equity and inclusion gaps.

New EDI toolkit
The Equity Office is pleased to launch a new toolkit for those who are interested in building their own EDI committee to integrate EDI principles in their work. The toolkit offers a systematic, step-by-step guide, with questions and resources, help create and build an EDI planning team or committee. See the toolkit and other resources.
Reminder: Data collection for Pay Transparency Report
All employees are asked to help SFU comply with this year’s requirement for B.C.’s Pay Transparency Act by updating their gender data in MyInfo no later than July 30, 2024. This data collection is aligned with B.C.’s new Gender and Sex Data Standard.
*Please note, for those who are off campus, they will need to log into VPN before logging into MyInfo.
Demographic & Diversity Data survey coming Fall 2024
Over the past few months, the Data Taskforce has been meeting with key stakeholder groups, including student associations, to gather input and feedback. This month, the team met with student groups and student advocates. Learn about the demographics and diversity data collection survey that will help meet other regulatory requirements, provide information to support equitable and accountable decision-making and measure progress towards our institutional priorities.
Days of Significance
Beginning in June each year, SFU commemorates Pride Season—a time to celebrate and honour the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. See the Celebrating Pride 2024 page for information on events and resources across SFU.
National Indigenous History Month
June is National Indigenous Peoples Month, and June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Across the university we honour the history, culture, resilience and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples to SFU and across Canada.
