Purchasing Courses
If you’re approved for your program and the future skills grant, you must register in enough courses up front to use your entire grant amount.
Example 1
If you have $3,425 in future skills grant funding ($3,500 - $75 application fee) and you are taking a program with courses that cost $749 each, you must register in the program’s first 5 courses to use your entire grant:
$749 x 5 = $3,745
The grant will cover the first $3,425 and you will have a balance owing of $320.
Once you have registered for your courses, you’ll receive an email notification of the balance owing, payable within 5 days of receipt.
If your program requires additional courses, you can register and pay for those courses separately since you’ll cover those costs yourself.
Note: The cost of courses and textbooks vary between programs.
Example 2
Full costs and payment for Business Management Certificate program:
Tuition (6 courses) | Application fee | Textbooks (approx. cost) |
Total cost |
$3,894 | $75 | $1,030 | $4,999 |
Subtract maximum grant from total cost:
- $4,999 - $3,500
Total owing:
- $1,499
- Textbook costs (directly payable to publisher/bookstore): $1,030
- Balance (payable to SFU): $469
