Tamara Shenkier
Medical Oncologist, BC Cancer, PHSA
“I enrolled in the course with some trepidation as I was worried about voicing my skepticism regarding certain aspects of the EDI ideology. In particular, EDI did not seem like a space for a Jewish woman to be vulnerable, safe or accepted. At the same time the course has highlighted that as a physician I have tremendous power and privilege and that I can use my social position to break down barriers for others. I have been surprised by how the asynchronous learning, reading, assignments and reflections built into the modules have demonstrated the value of engaging deeply with EDI concepts and explore its applicability. The course facilitators were available and skilled to help with a deeper dive.”

“As a nurse clinician and a practice leader in psychological health and safety, I continuously learn strategies from this program to cultivate a sense of belonging, encourage individuals to express their authentic selves, and take interpersonal risks without fearing discrimination. These learnings are critical in building a more inclusive and supportive community. The most meaningful aspect of this program has been the connections I’ve made with my fellow learners and the facilitators. Together, we have shared invaluable resources, participated in impactful discussions, and learned from each other's diverse experiences/perspectives. This collaborative learning environment has enhanced our understanding of health equity and strengthened our commitment to making changes in our healthcare system and communities.”

“This course has been a unique experience, deepening my understanding the ways historical and systemic barriers shape healthcare access. It challenged me to reflect on my own biases and reinforced the importance of practicing humility, giving me a new perspective on healthcare inequities. While I have previously engaged with much of the content in the modules, I’ve gained new insights that have helped me recognize inequities in my own work and equipped me with the tools to advocate for more inclusive and equitable healthcare practices. I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking to make a real impact!”

This experience has expanded my perspective and equipped me with practical tools to support meaningful change in healthcare settings. It has also reinforced the necessity of creating environments where diverse voices feel heard, valued, and empowered to contribute.”
