Michael Mortensen
Michael Mortensen is a Vancouver-based urban planning and development expert who has spent more than 20 years in the private sector and in public service in Vancouver and Toronto, and more recently in the U.K. in London and Edinburgh.
After completing an MA in urban geography, Michael worked for CMHC managing the federal government's affordable housing programs in B.C. From there, he served on the City of Vancouver’s Development Permit Board and worked as a major projects planner for the City before transitioning to the private development sector. For the last decade, Michael has focused on the development of mixed-use projects at scale.
Michael’s recent indicative local projects include the 1300-block of Marine Drive in West Vancouver (under construction) and the Rise at 8th and Cambie in Vancouver. In the U.K., he worked on mixed-use rental schemes in Southwark and Edinburgh.
Michael is keenly interested in the nexus between great urban design, public involvement and development intelligence. He is a Registered Professional Planner and a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Learn more about his work at liveablecityplanning.com.
