Andrea Nicki
Andrea has a PhD in philosophy from Queen’s University and held a postdoctoral fellowship in bioethics and narrative medicine at the University of Minnesota. For several years she was a faculty member in health sciences at SFU and won a departmental teaching award in 2011-2012. Some of the chapters have been presented at conferences in the U.K., such as the University of London-Birbeck and the University of Essex. The book includes an exploration and analysis of some of Andrea’s own poetry. She has books of prose poetry published by North American presses on themes such as the social construction of gender, trauma and healing, and female self-empowerment. Her poetry has appeared in the American anthology Stories of Illness and Healing: Women Write Their Bodies, Philosophy Now, The Goose: A Journal of Arts, Environment and Culture in Canada, Canadian Disability Studies, and The Brock Review.
