Danielle Dubé
Danielle Dubé is in her 14th year as a full-time firefighter and is currently completing her officer pool courses as she works toward becoming a Hall Captain. She also brings a breadth of experience from her ice hockey career, where she played both professionally in the men’s minor professional leagues and for the Women’s National Ice Hockey Team.
Danielle considers herself a lifelong learner. At the age of 36 she was asked to attend UBC as a varsity athlete, which led to a bachelor of arts in psychology. Through her interest in continuously learning, Danielle’s degree propelled her into the mental health world of firefighters where she was heavily involved in the development and implementation of several mental health initiatives. These initiatives included building and participating in her department’s peer support program, instructing courses such as Resilient Minds and Working Minds First Responders, as well as participating in the study that built the BC Firefighters Resiliency Program. This involvement blossomed into a passion to continue her education and she is now in the final stages of completing her master of counselling degree.
She is currently a member of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association’s Health and Wellness committee where she helped shape a mental health app designed for retired alumni members in an effort to provide psychoeducation and reduce stigma around mental health support. Danielle is also a co-researcher in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health RESPond study designed to explore the crisis line experiences, needs and preferences of first responders and help shape and strengthen crisis line services for first responders across Canada.
Danielle is a graduate of SFU’s First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate program, allowing her to support students through their own continuing education journeys.
