Students win funding for community engagement projects
Five Community Capacity Building Certificate projects were selected as winners of this year’s SFU’s Student-Community Engagement Competition. Learners in the program plan and implement projects that will have a positive impact in our communities. Whether they’re teaching marginalized youth to grow their own food or running to raise awareness about truth and reconciliation issues in Canada, our students can now put more of their ideas into action.
SFU’s Office of Community Engagement hosts the competition for student teams across the university, which is now in its ninth year. Participating teams submit a proposal outlining how they will work with community partners to effect impactful change. This year, 13 teams were selected to win a $2,000 or $3,000 award to support their projects.
