City Program director honoured at president’s award luncheon

Andy Yan, director of our City Program, joined SFU president Andrew Petter this week at a special luncheon recognizing the winners of the 2018 president’s newsmaker awards.

Andy has been honoured with the Media Newsmaker Award for the extensive media attention he’s brought to SFU. With the Lower Mainland real estate crisis having emerged as one of Canada’s biggest news stories, Andy has played a strong role in that narrative. Thanks to the close ties that he’s cultivated with local, national and global media, he was quoted in more than 900 stories in 2018 alone, by media outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post and Bloomberg.

Fellow award-winners David Shiffman from the Department of Biology and Donna Dove from Student Services were also honoured at the luncheon.
