To Speak With a Golden Voice
Bill Reid: To Speak with a Golden Voice was a landmark exhibition held at the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art in downtown Vancouver in 2020. Gwaai Edenshaw, considered one of Bill Reid’s last apprentices guest curated the exhibition with Bill Reid Gallery curator, Beth Carter. In 2022, The Bill Reid Gallery generously lent many elements of their exhibition to the BRC to create this off-site exhibit.
The BRC exhibit maintains a focus on Reid’s legacy, yet shines a light on the digital media created for the gallery’s 2020 exhibition. Students from SFU's School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) created short films documenting artists and collaborators who worked closely with Reid. Additionally, PhD candidate in SIAT, Reese Muntean, worked with the BRC and the Bill Reid Gallery to document the Golden Voice Speaker Series, and create this immersive curator-led tour.
This virtual tour below has a significant amount of educational potential. We strongly recomend it be used alongside Iljuwas Bill Reid: Life and Work found on our For Educators page.
