In the 1980s Dorothy Grant relied on her knowledge of Haida art that she learned while making regalia for her community and combined formline design with high fashion, as a way to express Haida social and artistic vitality. Her fashion house quickly garnered international attention and acclaim. In 2018, to acknowledge her lifelong contributions to the Canadian Fashion Industry and her international prominence, Simon Fraser University conferred upon Dorothy Grant the degree Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa. In Fall 2021, in admiration for Dr. Grant's legacy and her longstanding working relationship with Bill Reid, the SFU Bill Reid Centre for Northwest Coast Studies is proud to have Dr. Grant as its inaugural Visiting Fellow.
