Mike Lombardi has extensive leadership, advocacy, and governance experience in the BC public sector.
Since being appointed to the SFU Board of Governors in July 2019, Mike has served as Chair of the University Relations Committee and as a member of the Executive & Compensation, Finance & Administration, Human Resources, and Responsible Investment Committees.
Mike holds a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Adult Education degree from the University of British Columbia.
He has served in the BC public education system for more than 40 years as a school trustee, teacher, professional development expert, and educational leader.
Mike served as an elected trustee on the Vancouver School Board (VSB) from 2008-2016. He served as VSB Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Chair of the Management & Coordinating Committee. As a trustee, he also served on the VSB Finance & Legal, Education Services, Human Resources, and Facilities & Planning Standing Committees. Mike also represented the VSB on the Vancouver Public Library Board, Vancouver City Planning Commission, City of Vancouver Children & Youth Advisory Council, and City of Vancouver Arts and Culture Advisory Council.
Prior to his retirement as an educator in the BC public education system in 2008, Mike served as Director of the BC Teacher’s Federation Professional & Social Issues Division. He also served as elementary school teacher and education leader for numerous years.
Mike has a proud history of local community involvement. He has served as a parent representative on elementary and secondary school Parent Advisory Council’s. As well, Mike has served as a coach on numerous community baseball and soccer teams in Vancouver.
He is also a leader in the BC Italian community. Mike currently serves on the Board of Directors of the IL Centro:Italian Cultural Centre. He also serves as the president of the Basilicata Association of Vancouver BC and he has served on advisory committees of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Canada West. Mike has also been a director of COMITES BC (advisory committee to the Consul General of Italy in Vancouver).
Mike is the proud father of three adult children.
