Master of Professional Computer Science
Unlike traditional thesis-based degrees, our programs do not have a research component. Instead, almost half of the coursework consists of hands-on lab training, complemented by a carefully selected array of instructional courses.
- Specialize in one of our three degrees: Master of Cybersecurity, Master of Visual Computing, and Master of Science in Big Data
- Designed for students aiming for industry careers with strong backgrounds in computer science, engineering, physics or mathematics

PhD in Computing Science

Department of History
The Department of History offers both thesis-based and course-based Master of Arts degrees, and a thesis-based doctoral degree. Our faculty advisors have expertise in the early-modern and modern period across many continents, with particular strengths in the history of early-modern Europe, Islaam, and North American subject matter and a broad range of methodological and thematic approaches.

Global French and Francophone Studies
The global French and francophone studies master of arts offers an interdisciplinary curriculum in the study of French and francophone literary, cultural and linguistic studies. The program encompasses a critical perspective on a variety of linguistic, cultural and literary methodologies and theories. Courses offered in the department are taught in French.
School of Criminology - MA and PhD Programs
The School of Criminology's MA and PhD programs have a long-standing tradition of promoting academic excellence and supporting students to achieve their full research potential. This is achieved in part through $5,000,000 in active research grants, guaranteed minimum funding for PhD students, and domestic tuition fees for international students.

Graduate Liberal Studies Program
Graduate Liberal Studies (GLS) is an interdisciplinary master of arts program designed for part-time studies. GLS is both flexible and diverse, allowing working individuals to explore the ideas and values that shape our culture.
- First year: students join a small, tightly-knit cohort weekly by live-Zoom. The live-Zoom seminars are complemented by two in-person instructional weekends at SFU Vancouver, one in the fall and one in the spring.
- After first year, students pursue the courses and learning format that best suit them, choosing from in-person classes, small live-Zoom seminars, or on-the-ground travel electives.
- After 6 courses, students may complete the program via coursework, extended essays, or a thesis/fine-arts project.
