| The task of this assignment is to create a
place that accommodates a function, creates a feeling and is of an architectural
language. Each of these terms carries much meaning in the discipline of
architecture and bears explanation.
Place.We live, play, learn and work in places. You might think
of a place as the sum of what you experience at a particular location.
One quite important view of architecture as a whole is that it is primarily
concerned with making places that are appropriate for their intended
and future possible uses. There has been a tremendous amount written
about place in the architectural literature. In this subject I would
like you to take the term informally and rely on your own intuition
as to what constitutes a place.
The place you create will be on a fictitious site, which is near both
an ocean and a river. We have made a Form•Z model to describe the
site.
Function. What we do in a place is its function. The function
may be intended in that the place was designed for that function to
occur. The function is often just as likely to be unintended, for instance,
when we use a place in an unexpected way.
