Dr. Majid Bahrami is a Professor in the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering at Simon Fraser University, Canada Research Chair in Alternative Energy Conversion Systems. He was awarded Canada's Clean50 in 2016. His research group studies transport phenomena in emerging microstructured materials and porous media, fuel cell technologies, new refrigeration, and microelectronics cooling with a focus on sustainable energy conversion systems. This multifaceted research requires combined expertise in heat transfer, fluid flow, materials science, and contact mechanics, and has a focus on both fundamentals and contemporary industrial applications. Bahrami (Sharif B.Sc. 1992 / Amirkabir M.Sc 1995 / Waterloo Ph.D. 2004 / Waterloo Post-doc 2004-2006) has authored/co-authored more than 100 journal and conference articles. Dr. Bahrami practiced for 5 years (1995–2001) in the HVAC and refrigeration industry as a thermal engineer and consultant. From 2006 to 2008, Bahrami served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria, British Columbia. He is Fellow of ASME, Fellow of CAE and member of AIAA, ASHRAE, SAE and CSME.

Claire’s previous research projects include development of next generation photovoltaic devices (4D LABS, Simon Fraser University), femtosecond laser experiments (LASIR, Simon Fraser University), and micropatterning polymer-based devices for cell adhesion research (Western Nanofab Facility, University of Western Ontario). She tested the mechanical properties of fibers and thin automotive antiwear films for her doctorate from UWO. Her work with the Laboratory for Alternative Energy Conversion focuses on the development of composite adsorbents with properties tailored for adsorptive cooling systems.

Ilya recieved his PhD in 2018 from Boreskov Institute of Catalyst, Novisibirsk, Russia. His topic of research was dynamic of water and methanol adsorption in adsorption heat transformation cycle. He received his MSc in Physics, Physical Chemistry in 2014 and BSc in Physics, Physical Chemistry, in 2012 from Novosibirsk State University.

Salman received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Elahe received her B.Sc. in Metallurgical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology. Afterwards she graduated from Sharif University of Technology in Materials Science and Engineering, where she worked on various projects including developing new catalysts for fuel cells and Li-ion batteries, corrosion/protection issues and developing coatings with specific properties. Currently, her research as a Ph.D. student in MSE at SFU and LAEC focuses on developing S-TES beds with improved heat and mass transfer characteristics.

Meysam earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sistan and Baluchestan and Isfahan University of Technology, respectively. Aidan received his BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Guelph in 2020. He also completed his MASc at the University of Guelph in 2022, where his research focused on heat transfer enhancement using novel fin geometries and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), as well as thermal energy storage using phase change material (PCM). He is currently a PhD student in Sustainable Energy Engineering at Simon Fraser University. His research in LAEC is focused on sorption gas separation and thermal energy storage technologies using waste heat.

Victor received his MASc in Mechanical Engineering in 2021 from the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, with his thesis on the thermal-hydraulic optimization of diffusion bonded heat exchangers. In 2016 he was awarded the Emerging Leaders of the Americas scholarship from the Canadian Government from his efforts in researching jet aeroacoustics. Currently, Victor is a PhD candidate at SFU, and is working as a research assistant at LAEC researching ways develop the next generation of high-power density fuel cell membrane electrode assembly.
