Studying in Canada

I applied for a study permit from outside Canada with a PAL from a different designated learning institution (DLI). My study permit is still in process. I would like to go to SFU. Do I need to get a new PAL?

If you applied for a study permit with a letter of acceptance from another designated learning institution (DLI) in British Columbia, you are not required to obtain a new PAL from SFU, provided the PAL you included in your application was valid.

You are required to notify Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that you will be studying at SFU. You must notify IRCC about changing the DLIs by submitting your SFU offer of admission letter/letter of acceptance to IRCC via its webform. You should request your study permit to be processed based on your intended study program at SFU.  This must be done while your outside Canada study permit application is in progress.

If your study permit application has been approved while you are outside Canada, you must submit a new study permit application along with SFU’s offer of admission letter and other supporting documents. For more information about changing DLIs while outside Canada, please review IRCC’s website here.
