The global economic crisis presented a challenging environment for fundraising in 2008/09, and our total dollars raised reflects this. However, the good news is that our total number of donors increased slightly to 7,798 (from 7,412), demonstrating that although our donors are being cautious during these uncertain times, they are still committed to supporting SFU students and research. I thank you for this because in difficult economic times and tough job markets, your support is needed more than ever as more students attend university, and the demand for scholarships, bursaries and awards increases dramatically.
As you can see, we have made some changes to this year’s report to donors in an effort to be fiscally conservative ourselves. First, we have combined this report with the president’s report to the community. Having one report allows us to share the year’s highlights with you and demonstrate the impact your donations are making in a more efficient and cost-effective way. We have also reduced the size of the printed report from letter size to pamphlet size in an effort to reduce postage costs. Please let me know what you think of these changes.
Thanks again for your continued support. You are making a tremendous difference to our students and, through them, to the world.
Sincerely,
Cathy Daminato
