Rebooting the Greek Language Project team return from trip to Ottawa, Montréal

Even as the fall semester is drawing to a close and the customary exam season hush has descended on the university, the Rebooting the Greek Language team has been hard at work sharing their expertise on Greek language education in the diaspora.

The team, along with the Director of the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies, Dr. Dimitris Krallis, travelled to Ottawa and Montréal to meet with educators, potential partners, as well as representatives of the Greek state.

The team was very pleased to deliver a formal presentation of the project to the Ambassador for Greece to Canada, Dimitris Azemopoulos at his formal residence in Ottawa, along with prominent members of the Greek-Canadian community. His Excellency has been a key supporter of this project, and we were very pleased to have developed and launched the Between Worlds Greek Civilization XR Experience at the Museum of Vancouver on November 26, 2019, under his auspices.

Also in Ottawa, the team met with the President of Carleton University, Benoit-Antoine Bacon, and the Chair of the Board of Governors, Nik Nanos, where opportunities for future collaboration were discussed. The team also presented the Rebooting the Greek Language project to educators and administrators at the local Greek community’s school. The presentation was followed by a vigorous discussion on the various ways that the project’s new pedagogy and technology could be integrated into their classrooms.

Travelling to Montréal, the Rebooting the Greek Language team met with the Deputy Foreign Minister for Greeks Abroad and updated him on the progress of the project. They also discussed the possibility of a conference on the Greek Language. Lastly, the team met with one of the principals of the Socrates-Demosthenes school, where, following a presentation of the Rebooting the Greek Language project, they discussed the state of affairs of Greek Language education, as well as its successes and challenges.

The Rebooting the Greek Language team is ramping up its outreach activities as the official launch of the app gets closer and closer. Stay tuned for more information in the New Year!
