This project requires various forms and types of Data. All the data required was obtained from a variety of sources. The table above explains each data layer required, the format it came in, why the data was needed and where the data was acquired from. Data representing the locations of shopping centres/malls and libraries in the GVRD was not available. Thus, google was utilized to determine the address of each desired shopping malls and library and it was digitized into separate layers using the GVRD Land-use layer overlaid with the roads layer.
Data Manipulation
For this project the two GIS programs that were utilized are ArcGIS 10.1 and IDRISI Selva. ArcMap from ArcGIS was initially used to project all the vector files using the same projection type; that being UTM Zone 10N. All the vector files then were clipped to represent the desired study area. Then using ArcMap all the vector files were converted into raster files and were then converted into ASCII format with a 20 metre by 20 metre resolution for each data set. The digitization process of both the shopping mall locations and library locations were also conducted in ArcMap.
IDRISI Selva was utilized to perform the analysis component of the project; as addressed in Methodology (you may click on the link to go to Methodology).
