ROSE WILLIAMS

Honouring Homeland and Her Beings: Weaving Conference 2009

Stemming from her early interest in textiles, Rosemarie began her work learning to sew traditional regalia out of cotton velveteen and then progressed to paddle vests and dresses. As a member of Squamish Nation, Rosemarie had the honour of learning cedar weaving from Sesemiya Tracy Williams, and traditional wool weaving from Chepximiya Siyam Chief Janice George, and SkwetismeltxwWillard ‘Buddy’ Joseph. Several of her pieces have been selected for private collections and museum exhibits. Rosemarie’s goal is to use traditional materials in her work as much as possible. Her personal belief is “what we create is a representation of our culture today as it was for our ancestors.”
