Scenario
Imagine that you are to place an external door at ground floor level
in the SW wall of the Richards
House. (This is not to suggest that the house requires such a door!)
The aims of the exercise are to
- gain some understanding of timber stud frame construction.
- gain some understanding of the principles of timber joinery.
- experience aspects of the interaction between the functional and
aesthetic purposes of architecture and the practice of building.
- develop some understanding of the principles and techniques of detailing,
including issues of waterproofing and architectural character
