This research-creation collaboration between dance, theatre, sound, media, and film artists began as a hybrid work of lecture-performance that uses language, movement, and sound to explore notions of normal self-expression in everyday life. The work was funded by a SSHRC Institutional Grant from SFU and work-in-progress showings took place at Concordia University’s SenseLab in October 2018 and Vancouver’s Left of Main in February 2019. Most recently, with the aid of another successful SFU grant, we have turned the work into a short film, a version of which was shown as a dual projection installation at the Experiments in Art and Ethnography Symposium held as part of the American Anthropological Association/Canadian Anthropological Society conference in November 2019.
