Team Evaluations

A key to IAT432 is teamwork and equivalent participation of those working together on an assignment. While each individual isn't expected to have mastery over all parts of an assignment, you are expected to help your workmates to the best of your ability, particularly where you have talent and skills. Consequently, in addition to the instructors' evaluations of your work, your teammates also have input. In main, follow the form below, giving them to Dan, our IAT432 TA when requested. Obviously, we will keep your comments "confidential" from other team members. But you need to be honest and fair in your assessments. After all, your teammates will be judging you as well. Here's the form, which you may copy and fill in using your wordprocesser. Please avoid handwritten materials as they can be difficult for us to read. Thanks.

Zero-Sum Evaluation:

Please rate the performance of your teammates using a zero-sum.
This means the total rating across all your teammates must add up to 0.

For example,
If you did the same amount of work as others in your group, give each of you 0.
If your teammate, Dan, did more work than you, give him a +1.
To balance out Dan's extra work, someone must have done less work so give this person a -1.

You can give up to a +5 for extra contributions and -5 for a lack of contributions.

Caveats:
The zero-sum evaluation is by no means perfect. If there are situations that are hard to reflect in the scoring, be sure to leave detailed descriptions in the comment box. Sometimes this is more valuable for me than the numbers.

If everyone worked really hard, then this is terrific, and I would hope it would end up reflecting in everyone's grades (e.g., each person gets an A). But in the case of the evaluations, everyone would get a 0 because the work was evenly distributed. Thus, the evaluation is meant to compare team members' efforts - that's it. What I want to know about is cases where the effort put in by particular individuals is not equal. In these situations, we have potential problems.

Team Member 1's Name:

Team Member 2's Name:

 0 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5

Team Member 3's Name:

Team Member 4's Name:

If scores are not all 0, please leave comments about why you gave these ratings. This helps me the most in understanding why some people worked harder than others.
