REEL 33 COMMENTARY
1-9. Each take recorded in same room in extremely quiet ambience. In takes 1, 4 and 9, the clock is audible in the background. As it turns out, the quiet ambience is due to the fact that the electricity has been turned off. (Take 9, at end, lady mentions this.)10. Nothing but a low frequency rumble.
11. Continuous boat motor (diesel?).
12. Continuous hum as sail is put up (1'20"), squeak accompanies the hum. Recordists move closer (2'00"), interesting crescendo. Motor stops as work is finished (3'05"). Lots of wind on microphone from 3'30" on.
14. Hum very close up, acoustically activities not audible.
16. Wind on microphone, background hum turned off.
17. Too much wind, rope sounds masked by wind.
18. With motor sound in background.
19-21. Uninteresting takes. Sails aren't really audible.
22. Ship movement, ship creaking, some waves.
