REEL 32 COMMENTARY
3. Closer take of wood stove. Crackling of fire audible, but most distinctive sound is a relaxing continuous hum, like wind in stove pipe.4. Hammering in very quiet, muted ambience. One almost smells the wood.
5. Both hammering and "forging" (shaving top of barrel). No talking. Rolling barrel (4'45"). Some talk about tools (5'00"). Geese in background, then microphone is turned toward geese (5'15-5'40").
6. Recordists walking from barrel making toward the man with the scythe. He sharpens scythe, in background sheep, bells ringing and some traffic on street.
7. Funny little interlude.
8. Traffic and wind on microphone, no good.
9. Wind throughout, no traffic.
10. " " " "
11. Less wind and sheep bells in background.
12. " " " rooster crowing (25",30", 40").
13. Car passing.
14. Interesting call, but heavy wind on microphone, sheep eating (30").
15. Lots of wind, no good.
16. Grunts and squeals and sucks. Recorded inside barn. Occasionally a fly flies by microphones. Close up grunt (1'40"). Very sensuous and funny take.
17. Grooming motion and cowbell create nice counterpoint during first minute. Traffic from outside quite audible and occasionally, what sounds like a distant chainsaw. Kid talking (1'50"), told to shut up.
18. Man commanding and shouting at oxen. Bell ringing continuously throughout process. Man huffing and puffing in his efforts to get it done. Walking outside at end.
21. Lots of wind on microphone. Two men are harnessing oxen (1'20"). Bell clanking throughout.
22. Plowing starts close to microphone, then disappears in distance. Bell ringing all the time. Plow is rather squeaky.
23. Plow approaching, disappearing, approaching, disappearing (heavy wind).
24. No good.
25. Plow approaching, stopping, starting, disappearing, etc. Lots of wind again.
