Three SFU English professors earned national honours in 2002.
Roy Miki (right) won the Governor General's poetry award for the avant-garde poetics of his book, Surrender.
Professor emeritus George Bowering (left) was appointed Canada's first Parliamentary Poet Laureate.
Sandra Djwa received the Royal Society of Canada's Lorne Pierce Award for outstanding achievement in critical or imaginative literature, in addition to an honorary degree from Newfoundland's Memorial University for her many contributions to Canadian literature.
