Congratulations to Professor Emerita Maureen Maloney, who has been the recipient of a King Charles III Coronation Medal.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a Canadian honour established to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III, recognizing individuals who have made momentous contributions to Canada and their provinces.
Maureen Maloney became a professor at the School of Public Policy in 2010, dedicating her efforts to teaching and researching justice systems, international human rights, and conflict management and resolution. She has shattered glass ceilings as an inspirational figure for women in law, education, and public service. A renowned lawyer, scholar, and public policy expert, her work has enhanced lives and created new opportunities.
Before joining the School of Public Policy, Maloney made history as the first woman in B.C. to be appointed a law school dean in 1990 and as the first female Deputy Attorney General of B.C. in 1993. As BC's first woman law dean, she promoted equity and diversity and founded Canada’s first chair in environmental law. As the province’s first woman Deputy Attorney General, she led reforms to improve justice access for vulnerable populations. Additionally, in her roles as an academic and public policy practitioner, she has driven initiatives to promote human rights, resolve conflicts, and reform justice systems both locally and globally.
