2020 grad recognized with national award
Congratulations to MPP 2020 graduate Colin Bowbrick for winning gold in the 2020 National Student and Thought Leadership Awards in Public Administration–a joint initiative of the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA) and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC). Colin presented his Capstone research titled War on drug resistance: policy interventions to tackle antibiotic misuse in Canada to a panel of judges in a virtual format. The award recognizes top talent in Canadian public administration and policy programs at regional and national levels. It highlights excellence in public administration and showcases the talent emerging from Canadian programs each year. This year’s competition, held in conjunction with the IPAC National Conference was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and like so many things this year, proceeded as a virtual event.
Colin writes: "It was a great opportunity to showcase the work I did for my capstone and see what policy research other students from across Canada have worked on! The judges weren't afraid to challenge and probe students on their presentations, but I was confident in my research after successfully defending my capstone back in March."
Colin completed his Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Public Policy at Simon Fraser University. His background and policy interests are largely in health policy–having previously worked at the Public Health Agency of Canada and currently as a policy analyst for Doctors of BC.
