Obinna Uzoh, PhD candidate from SFU Physics, co-led a Quantum outreach event in Nigeria in November 2024.

Titled "Physics Without Frontiers: Quantum Roadshow Nigeria 2024", the event aimed to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists on quantum science and technology.  Events took place at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The program included a keynote lecture from Dr. Obinna Abah of Newcastle University titled "Is Africa part of the Second Quantum Revolution?".  There were also hands-on learning of Python and Qiskit, talks on advanced quantum topics, and discussion of career opportunities.  Particpants of differing academic levels from high school to postdoctorate got the chance to engage with the presenters and receive learning material for supporting independent studies.  Plans for quantum study groups and future workshops were also established.

The organizers hope to foster quantum education and research in Nigeria and motivate participants to envision a future where Africa plays a leading role in the quantum revolution.

The event was made possible by the generous support of The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), NSERC, and Quantum BC.
