Outreach Award in Physics

October 16, 2024

Kye Emond, an undergrad student in the Mathematical Physics Honours program, is the winner of the inaugural Faculty of Science Outreach Award in Physics.

Kye started volunteering to teach youth in high school and remains highly active in sharing his passion for math and physics.  He was involved at numerous conferences and events including Science Spooktacular, Discover Physics, Science Rendezvous, Testing Gravity, ATLAS Week, and Let's Talk Science.  He is currently the Vice President of the SFU Game Developers Club, where he co-designed a workshop for Women in Computer Science's Try-CATCH event. He is also the treasurer of the Physics Student Association, a Science Peer Mentor, and an active member of the Physics ORSEC (Outreach, Retention, and Student Experience Committee).

Congratulations to Kye for this well-deserved recognition!

Also awarded this Fall was the John F. Cochran Award, which is given to students who have shown acheivement and promise in both experiment and theory through the first two years of study in any physics honours program.  This year's winners are Gaston Ibarra and Thomas Glukler.  Well done both!
