Synopsis
The two essential parts of almost all electronic devices are processor and memory. In recent years it has become evident that memory is the main bottleneck for further increasing the speed of electronic devices. In this seminar, the different types of memory will be discussed with emphasis on the memory hierarchy that separates computer memory based on its response time. A new magnetic solid-state memory, spin transfer torque magnetic random state memory (STT MRAM), will also be discussed due to its potential to compete with the fastest semiconductor memories.
