Synopsis

In the development of quantum computers, one of the most important steps is the identification and development of physical systems for use as qubits. Defects in some solids are good qubit candidates. By studying the electronic structure and formation energies of defects in solids, it is possible to find a set of candidates that could be used as qubits. I will discuss studies on the properties of some example defects and their hosts, to see if they can be used as potential qubits.
