Synopsis
Quantum computing is a rapidly developing field that aims to use superposition and entanglement to speed up computational problems. In the last two decades, photonic quantum computers have been gaining attention because they can generate large amounts of entanglement, surpassing the current entanglement record by up to 100,000 times. Photonic computers manipulate continuous-variable quantum information, as opposed to discrete quantum information. I will discuss the main ideas, and challenges behind continuous-variable computation and explore why photonic platforms are the cornerstone to attaining quantum supremacy.
