Special Event
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Simon Fraser University
Location: Convocation Mall
Synopsis
December 6th marks the anniversary of the murder of 14 women at the l’École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1989. Following this event, Canada established December 6th as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women, a day to reflect and take action against gender-based violence.
For this year’s memorial we have invited members of the SFU community to speak about the impact the Montreal Massacre has had on their lives. Speakers include students, faculty, and staff. We will hear about what has changed, what has remained the same, and how we can all continue to build concrete actions to end gender-based violence in our communities.Follow the SVSPO on Instagram or Facebook for more information.
*This memorial is a collaborative effort between SFU WiE, the Sexual Violence Support and Prevention Office, the SFU Human Rights Office, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion SFU, Academic Women SFU and the SFSS Women’s Centre.
