Physics Summer Research Poster Competition 2018

Synopsis

The Physics Summer Research Poster Competition is a one-day event to promote research, collaboration, and networking within the physics-archive community. The event is open to students engaged in supervised summer research at regional institutions (regardless of home institution) during the summer of 2018. Students are encouraged, but not required, to present their research in poster form during the adjudicated poster session. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the top posters. Faculty members from these institutions are also invited to attend and participate in the adjudication process.

Schedule

All Events are scheduled in the Physics/BPK Courtyard (8000-level).

Poster details:

Posters should be in portrait format, size 48 x 36” (4x3’) (or alternatively ‘A0’ size). Please notify the event organizer in advance if your poster will be in landscape/horizontal orientation.

Posters will be ranked based on the following criteria:

1. novelty of the research (what is new and interesting?)
2. clarity of the presentation (can we easily determine and understand the point?)
3. attractive and accessible to a general audience

Other tips:

• Remember that the audience has 5 minutes (or less) for each poster;
• Choose the title carefully - something that gets to the heart of the work;
• Give us the objectives and goals;
• Fill the space on the board, but at a comfortable density;
• Cut out half the words in your original draft - use pictures/diagrams where feasible;
• Summarize the important points in a conclusion
• Don't forget the acknowledgements
