From Keith Fong and Michael Thorson | Printing Issue for Microsoft Windows devices
This message is sent on behalf of Keith Fong, acting Chief Information Officer, and Michael Thorson, acting Chief Information Security Officer. It has been sent to all faculty and staff.
Dear faculty and staff,
Microsoft has announced a critical security vulnerability in printing named “PrintNightmare.” To protect SFU information and systems, we will temporarily disable printing at SFU. This is a widespread Microsoft issue that needs to be mitigated by organizations that use the Microsoft operating system.
Following the guidance from Microsoft, all printing, including SFU Print, will be disabled today at 3:00 pm. Printing will be restored as soon as it is safe to do so.
It is recommended that you also protect your personal Windows computers by disabling printing following the guidance from Microsoft.
If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at its-help@sfu.ca or call 778-782-8888.
Thank you,
Keith Fong
Acting Chief Information Officer
