When using a Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) there is the ability of adding constraints or strict guidelines to the analysis process.  Constraints acts in a similar fashion as Boolean Overlays, in that the location must meet the criteria to be considered.

For this project there where two constraints, property boundary and the lake.  Obviously the cabin location had to fall within the property boundary and building on the lake would present a few challenges.

There were five factors or weights to be considered in the cabin selection process

• Slope - not to exceed 25%, however lesser slopes represent lower building costs
• Sandhill Crane Nesting Site - cabin must be at least 140 meters away, however any distance greater than 1500 meter has not increasing benefit to the cranes.
• Septic Location - a minimum of 140 meters, with no increasing benefit after 500 meters
• Ground Suitability - cabin location must have suitable ground for build on
• Wood Value - the greater the wood value the less clearing will be needed to fund the cabin building project
