Because of the high degree of similarity with the Jarman index, the same occurrences pertaining to census discrepancies were also encountered in the SCOTDEP. We integrated the same adjustment when running the SCOTDEP Index as with the Jarman.
However, as the SCOTDEP is un-weighted it is not a simple matter adjusting for discrepancies between the two data sets. To adjust the percentage data for per household values the analysis appears to be rather ambiguous, and much data was ineffectively lost or skewed. The analysis was carried out with the crude percentages for per person values.
Unemployment: The unemployment factor is calculated through unemployed residents as a percentage of economically active residents.
Overcrowding: The overcrowding factor is calculated as the percentage of households with more then one person per room.
Low social class: This factor is calculated as the percent of households headed by an unskilled person.
Residential mobility: This factor is calculated as the percent of the residents who changed their home address in the previous year.
